Dan Mahoney — extended biography
Dan Mahoney is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor and solid- state storage industries. From 2002 through 2011 Dan was the CEO of Renesas Electronics America, Inc. He led the transformation of the company’s semiconductor business from a commodity memory business to a successful proprietary microcontroller business with an automotive market focus. He led the North American integration of Hitachi’s semiconductor business with that of Mitsubishi Electronics in 2003 which created Renesas, and again with that of NEC Electronics’ in 2010. In 2010 this entity had over 1,000 employees and global sales of $1B, and had moved from the number 5 position to the number 2 position in North American microcontroller sales. From 2012 through 2015 Dan was the CEO of Fastor Systems, a Solid -State Drive startup company. Under Dan’s leadership the company raised $6M in funding, grew from 3 to 25 employees, secured four patents and was acquired by a larger industry player in 2015.
Since 2019 Dan has been a CEO/Owner Peer Group Chair with CEO Focus in Spokane.
In addition to his executive career, Dan has served for six years as an advisory board member and then as a director of ALVA, a privately held LED Lighting company based in Berkeley, California. Since 2014 he has also been a member and chair of the Advisory Board of Gonzaga University’s School of Leadership Studies in Spokane, WA. For five years Dan has been an annually featured speaker in Gonzaga University’s Emerging Leader’s Program for high potential mid-career business, government and non-profit leaders. Since 2016 he has been an Adjunct Professor in Whitworth University’s Graduate School of Business, and is in his third year of teaching Design Thinking to MBA students, a program in which he has overseen a wide variety of student design thinking projects serving the Spokane business and non-profit communities. He is a Member of Whitworth University’s Business Advisory Board, and serves as an executive coach. He is a member of the Spokane Angel Alliance. Since 2007 Dan has been actively involved as a participant and leader in Kairos Prison Ministry International, a Christian ministry to the incarcerated that has also been shown to significantly reduce recidivism.
He is member of the United States Military Academy Association of Graduates and has completed the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation and the University of Chicago’s Finance for Executives Course. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army and Washington National Guard for a total of eight years.
